Be carefull around the crown and chrome usually cleans up easy. Brass wont hurt your barrel. I use both brass and nylon. Nylon everytime I clean and brass for a deeper cleaning. He's asking if it's safe to use bronze or copper brushes, not steel! Bronze and copper are softer than steel, (even stainless.) You'll be fine.
