The steel plate behind, with really could be 12ga. or 11ga. galvanized would insure no travel past the wall. Cost wouldn't be that bad. I could probably make the whole thing for around $250 to $300. WebJun 18, 2024 · Rail road ties (or any wood) kinda sucks for an impact area. You'll be surprised at how few rounds it takes to chew them up to uselessness. The rifles especially will be rough on the timbers. Long ago in the Boy Scouts an older scout rebuild the backstop at the local gun range. They built a wall out of rail road ties and backed it with dirt.
